PodPod hosts Rhianna Dhillon and Reem Makari discussed the iconic podcast coming to an end.
Jamie Morton, Alice Levine and James Cooper, hosts of the ground-breaking podcast My Dad Wrote A Porno, were the guests on yesterday’s episode of the podcast that delivers breaking industry news and insights.
For the first time, Jamie, Alice and James hinted at what might be next for the trio and Belinda herself – reading between the lines, something ‘visual’ could be on the cards.
When asked about the maddest thing that has happened since the podcast began, James mentioned being contacted by NASA: “So we got an email, last December I think it was, from NASA,” he explained. “NASA has like this mental health department for their astronauts. And basically they got in touch saying one of their astronauts on the International Space Station wanted to speak to us to help with their mental health!
“We ended up having a Teams call with someone on the International Space Station, which was nuts! Turns out she’s up there, and she’s listening to My Dad Wrote A Porno!”
Jamie added: “She is back now. We actually met her in America, it was amazing. But you know, she could have asked for anyone. She could have asked for Obama. You could have asked for Beyonce, she asked for us!
“It was very strange. We were like are you sure? Did everyone else say no? Giving us a tour of the space station was insane and then seeing Earth through her window and looking, it was amazing.”
There was a hint at what might be next for Belinda Blinked, James said: “One thing we’re also looking at is, we’re kind of ending new original content, but how can we continue the brand by reversion-ing content and you know, kind of how could we take this into the future and still serve the feed, the podcast feed, in some way and still celebrate My Dad Wrote A Porno even though we won’t be making any new content anymore.
“I think the moment the last episode goes out, we’re not closing the door on the brand. We’d like to keep it alive.”
Reem asked if they would let another group of hosts take over the show or would they do a reunion episode?
“I don’t think we’d ever have replacements. That would be madness,” Jamie replied. “We aren’t the Sugar Babes, we’re the Spice Girls. We’ve made that clear. But I do think that you know, James has said the other day he was like, you know, never say never and you know, not wanting to kind of get ahead of our skis. But, this isn’t the end of the Belinda Blinked/ My Dad Wrote A Porno story. Who knows what the future has got in store,” he added.
Rhianna Dhillon asked if it’s the end of the podcast, but not the end of the franchise, does that mean that we might see some visuals of Belinda?
Alice answered that it’s a good idea worth putting a pin in, while James said they are having conversations. He added: “Just with each other like, could this be visual? One of the reasons, like we’re kind of moving into a new phase with it and we’re kind of having conversations and there’s some exciting things happening in the background. Nothing unfortunately, we actually were really hoping it was stuff we could talk about in this period, but nothing concrete yet that we can say.”
Reem asked: “Can we say Belinda Blinked will be the new 50 Shades of Grey?”
“You can!” Jamie replied.
When asked about the HBO comedy special, Alice hinted again: “And it probably has opened doors for anything that we might one day do with My Dad Wrote A Porno… cool, can somebody else interrupt? Good,” she laughed.
