New true crime podcast investigates the Coco Berthmann story

Believable: The Coco Berthmann Story is a new true crime podcast from Dear Media.

Hosted by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Sara Ganim, it’s the first venture into true crime for the Austin, TX based US podcast network.

Believable explores the dark past and intricate web of lies surrounding Coco Berthmann, who became internet-famous sharing her story of surviving sex trafficking as a young child growing up in Germany and was later arrested after raising money for a fake cancer diagnosis.

Across 10-episode, the podcast unravels the truth behind Coco’s fabricated life, exploring her rise to notoriety and impending trial.

The series is the brainchild of executive producers Michael and Lauryn Bosstick, who were captivated by Berthmann’s story during her appearance on their podcast, The Skinny Confidential in 2021. They felt compelled to dive deeper into her case when the news broke about her arrest the following year.

Cutting-edge AI technology was used by the Dear Media team to replicate Coco’s voice (all of which is disclosed throughout the series) to deliver a unique storytelling experience to listeners.

Believable: The Coco Berthmann Story launches on all podcast platforms on 13 July.
