Podcast Magic founder says screenshots could reshape podcast listening

Sari Azout, founder of Podcast Magic, tells us that the idea for the tool began with a simple frustration.

Azout told PodcastingToday that she consumes huge amounts of podcasts yet constantly struggled to save the moments that mattered.

She explained that listeners rarely have a seamless way to capture an insight when they are out running, commuting, or spending time with family. She says that while books and Kindle highlights make it easy to revisit ideas, podcasts have never offered the same immediacy.

This is what prompted her team to explore whether a single screenshot could unlock a new way of remembering and sharing meaningful moments from any show.

She says that users of her other product, Sublime, were already pasting podcast links into their libraries along with manual timestamps, revealing a universal desire to preserve valuable ideas.

When a team member suggested screenshots as a starting point, the concept suddenly became viable thanks to recent advances in AI. This was the starting point for Podcast Magic.

Azout said the team spent the past year developing technology that turns a screenshot into a transcript, a clip and a short video, enabling ideas to travel further with minimal effort.

“We want to enable people to sit with and engage with ideas deeply, and Podcast Magic is just part of that journey,” she said.

Early adoption has been strong, helped by Kevin Kelly’s endorsement in his Wired magazine article, which brought the first few thousand users.

Azout believes the tool’s simplicity is central to its appeal, especially for listeners who want to act on what they consume.

She says capturing highlights strengthens loyalty to favourite shows because it allows listeners to revisit insights days or weeks later, turning passive consumption into a more active, valuable experience.

For podcasters, the benefits are equally promising. Podcast Magic creates a real-time list of moments that resonate most with listeners, offering creators a new form of feedback that is rarely available through major platforms.

Even a single saved moment can be valuable because it reveals what truly lands. She added that this data can also help podcasters decide which moments to clip for social media distribution, saving time and guiding promotion more effectively.

Azout believes the long-term potential lies in patterns that may emerge as more data accumulates. While Podcast Magic does not yet surface deeper trends, she said the team is open to exploring insights that could help podcasters understand what topics or guests drive engagement.

She also noted that unlike major platforms, Podcast Magic works everywhere and sits alongside personal knowledge tools, creating a richer, more interconnected way to track ideas.

The company is now launching an early partner programme, inviting podcasters to help shape the tool’s future.
