Realities of life in the world of acting explored in new podcast

How to Be an Actor and Not Lose Your Sh*t puts honesty centre stage.

The podcast is hosted by Shvorne Marks, an actor and writer stepping into podcasting with a show rooted firmly in lived experience.

It focuses on the realities of acting life, from the early excitement of discovering the craft to the tougher moments of rejection, uncertainty and long stretches without work.

Each week, Shvorne sits down with a fellow actor for a conversation that goes beyond success stories.

The discussions explore mental health, resilience, confidence and the emotional toll of working in an industry where progress is rarely straightforward or predictable.

Every episode ends with a consistent closing question aimed directly at listeners navigating difficult moments – “For any actors about to lose their sh*t… what’s your advice?” It’s designed to offer practical reassurance from those who have already faced similar struggles.

Shvorne says the podcast grew from a need she felt repeatedly during her own career.

“I started How to Be an Actor and Not Lose Your Sh*t because I wanted to create the space I’ve needed so many times in my own career,” she explains.

“A place where actors can hear the truth, the mess, the resilience, and the joy that sits behind this profession.”

She adds that the most meaningful shifts in her confidence came through open conversations with peers.

“Throughout my years as an actor, the most transformative moments have always come from honest conversations with other creatives,” she says.

“The chats that remind you you’re not alone, you’re not failing, and you’re part of something much bigger than your last job or audition.”

The podcast is to help remove the sense of isolation many performers experience, particularly during quieter periods.

Shvorne describes it as an attempt to “pull back the curtain,” with the hope that listeners finish each episode feeling understood and motivated to keep going.

Guests so far reflect a wide range of careers and experiences across stage, screen and entertainment.

They include Nell Tiger Free, Pearl Mackie, Hammed Animashaun, Kevin Clifton and Daisy Doris May, with more guests joining in the new year.
