SEGA of America has announced a new narrative podcast, Sonic the Hedgehog Presents: The Chaotix Casefiles, bringing the Sonic universe to audio for the first time.
Realm will be managing distribution and handling ad sales for the series.
The podcast follows Vector the Crocodile, Espio the Chameleon, and Charmy Bee of the Chaotix Detective Agency as they tackle their biggest mystery yet.
Styled after classic detective radio dramas, the series blends noir-inspired intrigue with Sonic’s signature energy, giving fans a new way to experience the Sonic world.
The official video game voice cast reprises their roles, including Roger Craig Smith as Sonic the Hedgehog, Keith Silverstein as Vector, Matthew Mercer as Espio, and Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Charmy Bee, alongside other fan-favourite characters throughout the season.
Production is led by a team with deep ties to animation and gaming. Ian Jones-Quartey (OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes, Steven Universe) directs, with Dan Jolley (Transformers, Dying Light, Superman) as lead writer.
The writers’ room includes Ian Flynn and Evan Stanley, both with extensive Sonic experience. Original music is composed by two-time Grammy and Tony winner Charlie Rosen, leader of the 8-Bit Big Band.
Sound design and postproduction are by Realm’s Fred Greenhalgh and Dan Brunelle, known for #1 podcasts including DC High Volume: Batman and Star Trek: Khan.
Ryan Hamlyn, Senior Director of SEGA Lore & Creative Strategy, said the series marks a milestone for the Sonic franchise: “We combined the appeal of a noir detective drama with Sonic’s fun and action-packed style, creating a fresh story that’s both true to the Sonic series and new to fans.”
Realm CEO Molly Barton added: “Fans can dive into the world of the Chaotix Detective Agency for an action-packed, sound-rich adventure. We’re excited to bring these beloved characters to life in a completely new medium.”
The series will be available everywhere podcasts are streamed from 27 January.
