A new investigative podcast delves into the abduction of 13-year-old Daniel Morcombe and the extraordinary fight for justice that followed.
From Sony Music Entertainment and Campside Media, alongside Pacesetter Productions, the eight-part series, Where Is Daniel Morcombe?, is hosted by writer and director Matt Angel.
Daniel disappeared on 7 December 2003 while waiting for a bus on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. His case triggered one of the largest police investigations in Australian history and kept the nation searching for answers as he became known across the country as “The Boy in the Red Shirt.”
After years of frustration and setbacks, his parents Bruce and Denise Morcombe established the Daniel Morcombe Foundation, which pushed for a coronial inquest that ultimately set the path for the breakthrough operation that brought the perpetrator to justice.
Through exclusive interviews with Daniel’s family and detectives who worked on the case, the series retraces the twists of the decade-long investigation while highlighting Daniel’s lasting legacy.
The Morcombe Foundation continues to champion child safety and education, with its annual Day for Daniel held on the last Friday in October and now recognised as Australia’s largest child safety event.
Speaking about the project, host Matt Angel said: “There is something remarkable about Daniel’s story; it is deeply tragic, and yet somehow still uplifting.
“Being given the opportunity to tell this story hand in hand with Bruce and Denise Morcombe, Daniel’s parents, has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life.”
Where Is Daniel Morcombe? is available now on all major podcast platforms including Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
