Queens Kings and Dastardly Things podcast examines the Kennedy dynasty

A new mini-series is turning its focus to the Kennedy family and the forces that shaped their rise in American politics.

Queens Kings and Dastardly Things has launched a run of episodes exploring the dynasty that left a lasting mark on the United States, beginning with a detailed introduction to the family’s complex and often troubled history.

The podcast is hosted by historian Kate Lister and royal biographer Robert Hardman, who together examine families and individuals who have shaped world events, and the decisions made behind closed doors.

For the next few weeks, Kate and Robert will look across the Atlantic at the Kennedys, describing a family that fought its way into the highest levels of American political life. The first episode is available now and sets out the themes that will run through the series.

The opening instalment explores siblings who were placed into institutions, the ambition of a father determined to see a son reach the Oval Office, and the personal battles faced by a future president whose health struggles were largely kept from public view.

It also addresses the circumstances surrounding the assassination of John F. Kennedy, a moment that continues to generate debate and discussion decades later.

According to the series description, it says the podcast draws back the curtain on the realities behind public image, examining how power, responsibility and secrecy have shaped the lives of those at the centre of global events.

The mini-series forms part of the wider Queens Kings and Dastardly Things feed with episodes two and three released on 23 February and 2 March respectively.
