Actors Penn Badgley and Sean Astin along with Apple Podcasts are joining the line-up at Podcast Movement Evolutions during SXSW.
Podcast Movement and Sounds Profitable have confirmed additional headline talent and programming updates for Podcast Movement Evolutions at SXSW, taking place 13 to 15 March at the Sky Box in downtown Austin.
Penn Badgley has been added to the slate of live performances with Companion. Penn, known for roles in You and Gossip Girl, will appear as part of the weekend’s programme, joining previously announced guest Maya Hawke at a live recording of Broken Record.
Award-winning actor Sean Astin will deliver the Sunday keynote. Sean, recognised for his work in The Lord of the Rings, Stranger Things, Rudy and The Goonies, is also President of SAG-AFTRA and brings experience of both performance and union leadership to the event’s closing day.
Apple will use the gathering to spotlight its recently announced video podcast experience on Apple Podcasts.
Powered by HLS, the platform is designed to support video within the app dedicated to podcasts, giving creators control over distribution and monetisation, including dynamic video advertising delivered in partnership with hosting providers and ad platforms supporting HLS.
The expanded programme also includes a keynote from Steve McLendon, Product Lead for podcasting initiatives at YouTube, who oversees podcast discovery, listener engagement and creator tools across the platform.
On Saturday 14 March, Companion will host Companion Presents: In Good Company, featuring an acoustic set from Andy Grammer alongside conversations and performances from Science and the City, We Love You, In The Hyphen, Ayana Butterfly and JJ and The Mood.
Programming begins on Friday with an address from Tom Fox, Founder of The Compliance Podcast Network and Founder of the event’s honourarium programme for community driven sessions.
“Podcasting is evolving faster than ever across audio, video, live experiences, and creator-led media,” said Bryan Barletta, Partner at Sounds Profitable and President at Podcast Movement. “Podcast Movement Evolutions at SXSW is where the future of the medium comes into focus and where the people building it come together.”
The event will close with The Independent Creator Awards Show from Oxford Road, hosted by Killer Mike.
