Goalhanger and The Observer launch podcast on money behind Reform UK

The Rest Is Politics is launching its first investigative spin off series examining the funding and networks behind Reform UK.

Produced by Goalhanger in partnership with The Observer, the four-part podcast series will look at the donors, finances and political connections linked to Nigel Farage’s party, from its origins as the Brexit Party to its current position in British politics.

The series, The Rest Is Politics: Who Funds Reform?, combines political analysis from the main podcast with investigative reporting from The Observer.

Topics include how Reform was financed in its early years, Richard Tice’s role in the party, Nigel Farage’s return to frontline politics and attempts to attract wealthy supporters from finance, property and cryptocurrency sectors.

One episode examines Christopher Harborne’s donations and Reform’s pro crypto policies, while another focuses on Farage’s earnings outside Parliament, including television work, paid speeches and business interests.

Tom Whiter, General Manager of Politics and Current Affairs at Goalhanger, said: “This is a bold new step for The Rest Is Politics as we broaden what the brand can do editorially, with Alastair and Rory as editors in chief.

“Partnering with The Observer allows us to develop original journalism that complements the core show, deepens our storytelling, and takes the trust we’ve built with audiences into more ambitious formats.”

James Harding, Editor of The Observer, added: “With Reform leading in the polls, knowing who funds the party, and the interests and networks surrounding it has never been more important.

“This series will shine a much needed light on the financial forces driving one of Britain’s most significant political movements today”.

The first episode, The Missing Millions, explores how the Brexit Party became Reform UK and questions around its early fundraising.

The series launches on 29 May with episodes released weekly.
