BBC Radio 6 Music podcast to mark 30th anniversary of Britpop

The Rise and Fall of Britpop is a new BBC Radio 6 Music podcast marking the 30th anniversary of the mid-90s British music culture..

Its timespan is considered to be 1993–1997, and its peak years to be 1995–1996. The most successful bands linked with Britpop were Oasis, Blur, Suede and Pulp. One of the memorable moments of the era was the legendary chart battle between Blur and Oasis, which became known as “The Battle of Britpop”.

To mark the 30th anniversary, Radio 2’s Jo Whiley and 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq, who presented The Evening Session on BBC Radio 1 together in the 1990s, host this eight-episode podcast for BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Sounds.

It takes listeners on a personal tour through the era that defined a generation. New and archive interviews are featured with Radiohead, Liam Gallagher, Blur and more, as well as unheard archive and untold stories.

From the Good Mixer in Camden to the fields of Glastonbury, Jo Whiley and Steve Lamacq tell the story of a genre that helped shape modern Britain.
