HuffPost UK relaunches Commons People political podcast

HuffPost UK has relaunched its weekly podcast Commons People as UK politics faces renewed pressure points.

Hosted by political editor Kevin Schofield and correspondent Kate Nicholson, the show returns with a focus on explaining major Westminster developments in a straightforward way. It aims to make complex political stories easier to follow for a broader audience.

The relaunch comes at a tense moment in British politics, with scrutiny on Prime Minister Keir Starmer and attention turning to upcoming local elections. The first episode of the new run looks at whether those elections could significantly affect Starmer’s position.

Each week, Kevin and Kate will be joined by expert guests to discuss key political stories, drawing on their experience reporting from Westminster.

Kevin has covered UK politics for nearly two decades across several publications, while Kate has spent more than two years working inside Parliament and reporting on domestic and international affairs.

Kevin said: “There are a lot of podcasts out there for political obsessives, but we want to explain all the big stories in a fun, easily digestible way that helps keep our listeners informed, but never bored.”

Kate added: “Politics can feel complicated and inaccessible, but it shouldn’t be. We aim to break down the complex world of Westminster (and beyond) so everyone can understand it, keeping listeners entertained rather than overwhelmed.”

Editor-in-chief Cate Sevilla said HuffPost UK was keen to highlight the presenters’ ability to analyse political developments with clarity and balance for a wider audience.

You can listen to Commons People on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and other major podcast players.
