Inside the Crime’s second series investigates The Charles Self Murder, which remains unsolved 41 years later.
Irish radio station Newstalk is behind the chart-topping podcast, which is hosted by its Court Correspondent, Frank Greaney.
The station has launched an appeal for information on the anniversary of the death of Scottish man, Charles Self, who was murdered in Dublin, 41 years ago last weekend.
Charles was 32 years old when he was brutally murdered in Monkstown, in Dublin, on the 21 January 1982.
He moved to Ireland from Glasgow in the 1970s, after being headhunted by Ireland’s national broadcaster, RTÉ for their set design department.
Charles, who spoke with a distinctive Scottish accent, was well liked and became a familiar face around Dublin’s gay-friendly bars.
Through interviews with friends and colleagues of Charles and the An Garda Síochána’s cold case team, Frank delves into the sequence of events on the night of his death and the wide-reaching consequences within the gay community in Dublin.
Was it a homophobic attack or a robbery that went wrong?
Frank Greaney says: “What happened to Charles Self was truly horrific. The fact that it remains an unsolved murder makes it even more tragic. Charles’ story was crying out to be told and it was an honour to tell it. But it would be amazing if we could help solve this case and bring Charles’ killer to justice.”
