Jon Favreau talks Star Wars, food and filmmaking on Dish podcast

Actor and filmmaker Jon Favreau joins the latest episode of the Dish from Waitrose to discuss food, filmmaking and the return of Star Wars to cinemas.

Hosted by Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett, the award-winning podcast hears Jon reflect on his career, his love of cooking and his upcoming film, The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Jon says the film has been nearly three years in the making and is designed to be seen on the big screen.

“One of the things that we always felt bad about was that we never got to see Star Wars,” he says, recalling how watching the original film at the age of 10 shaped his love of cinema.

He adds that a new generation will now have the chance to experience Star Wars in cinemas for the first time.

Away from the galaxy far, far away, Jon shares his enthusiasm for food and travel. He says London has become “a culinary capital of the world” and credits the internet for helping restaurants and food businesses build loyal audiences.

He also explains why podcasts can have more impact than traditional talk shows.

“You do if you do a podcast or a show where you have a dedicated audience who’s going to really listen and lean in,” he says.

Jon discusses his friendship with Pedro Pascal, praising him as one of the biggest stars in the world, and recalls directing Martin Scorsese, which he describes as “a once-in-a-lifetime memory”.

The conversation also covers test screenings, DJing with Mark Ronson and introducing Tom Holland to his first oyster.

Dish from Waitrose with Jon Favreau is available now on all major podcast platforms.
