Lena Headey brings dark new audio drama Intimacy to BBC Sounds

Lena Headey is starring in a new BBC audio drama about consent, power and past trauma in the film industry.

Intimacy is an eight-part comedy drama launching on BBC Sounds on 22 July, before airing on BBC Radio 4 from 27 July.

The series comes from Merman, the production company behind Bad Sisters and the BBC podcast drama People Who Knew Me.

Lena writes, directs and stars as intimacy coordinator Liza Simmons, whose career opportunity on a major film production becomes increasingly difficult when she discovers the director is someone she blames for ruining her life.

Other cast members include Hannah Waddingham, Maisie Williams, Alison Steadman, Thaddea Graham, Matthew Broome and Tom Goodman-Hill.

The story follows Liza as she struggles to manage both her professional responsibilities and personal problems, including debt and her difficult relationship with her alcoholic mother.

After accepting a job on a film set in Greece, tensions grow as professional boundaries begin to collapse.

The series will launch first on the Arc podcast feed on BBC Sounds as a complete boxset, while RSS listeners will receive weekly double episode releases. Radio 4 will broadcast episodes at 11pm on Monday nights from 27 July.

Lena Headey said: “It’s been a joy to create Intimacy alongside this incredibly talented cast and production team. Telling Liza’s story through audio was a challenging and fun process. I’m excited for listeners to meet her and the crew.”

Merman’s Sharon Horgan said: “Lena has created something really special and it’s been brought to life by an amazing cast. I can’t wait for listeners to discover Intimacy.”

Dylan Haskins, Commissioning Executive for BBC Sounds, said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Sharon Horgan’s Merman again on Intimacy: a bold, darkly funny new series written by and starring Lena Headey, with a truly knockout cast.”
