Noiser is marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with a new podcast series that looks beyond the familiar names of the American Revolution.
Founding Fathers: An American Dream is an eight-part series narrated by actor and writer, Clarke Peters. It follows the story of America from the early calls for revolution to the first years of the republic.
While the series covers well-known figures such as George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton, it also focuses on the people whose stories are often overlooked.
That includes women organising resistance movements, enslaved families, Native American communities, evangelical preachers and teenage soldiers drawn into the conflict.
The podcast features contributions from historians including Jane Kamensky, President and CEO of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Alan Taylor, and Lindsay Chervinsky.
It also includes interviews with descendants of people directly connected to the period, including families enslaved by Thomas Jefferson, a Massachusetts teenager who fought in the Continental Army, and Lord Charles Cornwallis, the British commander often associated with Britain’s defeat.
Pascal Hughes, Chief Executive Officer of Noiser, said: “The story of America’s founding is one of the most powerful and contested stories in modern history.
“With the guiding voice of Clarke Peters and in true Noiser fashion we wanted to dive deeper, beyond the famous names like Washington and Jefferson.
“We wanted to hear from descendants and historians who can reveal the people and perspectives often left out of traditional retellings.”
Clarke Peters said: “As we mark the 250th anniversary of American independence, it’s exciting to be part of an incredible podcast that paints the history of America in vivid colour.
What I love about Founding Fathers: An American Dream is that it goes beyond legend to uncover truths and perspectives that many people will be hearing for the first time ever.”
The series uses dramatic narration, original music, immersive sound design and expert interviews.
Founding Fathers: An American Dream will be available on all major podcast platforms, including Apple Podcasts and Spotify from 5 June, with new episodes released weekly.
