A new Audible Original starring Andrew Scott and George MacKay will explore family estrangement, queer identity and reconciliation through an audio first storytelling experience.
Starlings is the literary debut from actor and broadcaster Russell Tovey and will be released exclusively on Audible.
Set in Clapham, south London, the story follows Donald, played by Andrew Scott, a man who has spent decades avoiding the pain of being rejected by his family after his father discovered him wearing women’s clothes.
The drama begins when Donald’s younger brother Owen, played by George MacKay, arrives unexpectedly following their father’s death. Their reunion forces both brothers to confront long buried memories and unresolved tensions.
The story follows the pair as they revisit their shared past while navigating London’s drag venues, bars and LGBTQIA+ spaces.
Audible says the production has been created specifically for audio, using sound design to immerse listeners in the setting and characters.
Alongside Scott and MacKay, the cast includes Michele Austin, Julian Kostov and Jason Patel. Drag performers Dosa Cat, Gigi Zahir and That Girl also appear, while Russell Tovey has a role within the production.
Russell said: “It’s been the biggest privilege to bring this story and these characters alive with the best team at Audible and the most perfect and gifted cast of actors. This is a world and a community that I admire and love so much and hope in turn listeners will fall in love with too.”
Starlings will be available exclusively on Audible from 1 July.
