A new podcast celebrating the craft of filmmaking launches today, as Screen Players Film Club begins its first season.
The podcast features in-depth conversations between playwright, screenwriter, book writer and host Charlotte Bogard Macleod and some of the most acclaimed names in cinema.
Described as a book club for film, the series offers a front-row seat to live-recorded interviews at The Cinema in Selfridges, where Charlotte talks to directors, writers, producers and actors about the creative journeys behind their most iconic films. They offer fresh insights into their artistic process, sharing untold stories from behind the scenes and reflecting on the inspirations that sparked their work.
Production is by PODSSS, in collaboration with The Script Factory, Soho Square Studios, and Olympic Studios.
Season one kicks off with five weekly episodes. Sam Taylor-Johnson discusses her debut feature Nowhere Boy; Simon Beaufoy unpacks the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire; Tessa Ross reflects on the BAFTA-winning Conclave; Nick Broomfield and Bastille’s Dan Smith delve into Marianne and Leonard: Words of Love; and Hossein Amini revisits the making of cult favourite Drive. Dan Smith also composed the podcast’s theme music and features in episode four.
Charlotte, who founded The Script Factory, explains the inspiration behind the podcast: “Screen Players Film Club started as a film-geek’s impulse to share great movies, and invite those who created them to explore the stories of bringing them to the big screen.
“What side-swiped me was that initial chats about the moviemaking process swiftly moved onto something more profound… now it really feels like a club, for both film lovers and lovers of life.”
Producer Dalton Deverell at PODSSS says: “PODSSS was created by Soho Square Studios to give a voice to unheard podcast talent and guide them through the process of releasing their first podcast.
“We’re thrilled to have produced Screen Players Film Club and are excited to share these episodes with an audience.”
Lisa Burdge, co-owner of Olympic Studios, adds: “Partnering with someone as passionate about film as we are truly feels like a match made in filmmakers’ heaven… We’re lucky to have her – and we can’t wait for more.”
The first two episodes of Screen Players Film Club are available today, Monday 30 June on Apple, Spotify, Amazon Music and all major podcast platforms, with new episodes released weekly.
