Simon Calder is joining The Telegraph to host a new weekly travel podcast launching next week.
The Travel Expert with Simon Calder will launch on 5 June and feature consumer travel advice, destination recommendations, expert interviews and discussion around global travel news.
The show will become part of The Telegraph’s existing podcast portfolio covering news, investigations, interviews and sport.
Episodes will be distributed across podcast platforms, YouTube and social media channels.
Alongside the new podcast, Simon will also produce travel advice and commentary videos for social media and lead The Telegraph’s travel newsletter, which reaches almost 200,000 subscribers.
Since the early 1990s, Simon has reported on major developments across the travel industry, including the launch of easyJet, the opening of Eurostar, the 9/11 attacks, the Icelandic volcanic eruption in 2010 and the Covid pandemic. He has also appeared in several television travel series.
Simon said: “After decades on the road as a guidebook writer and travel correspondent, I’m thrilled that my next destination is The Telegraph.
“Exploring has never been more rewarding: travel is the industry of human happiness, bestowing benefits across the nation and the world. Yet never has it been more challenging, with a range of risks from geopolitics to climate change.
“I can’t wait to play my part in inspiring and informing The Telegraph audience, alongside outstanding travel writers and editors, led by Ben Ross.”
Ben Ross, Head of Travel at The Telegraph, said the appointment would support the expansion of the publisher’s travel coverage into weekly podcasting.
He added: “I know that his commitment and drive when it comes to giving readers the best advice and inspiration is unmatched. I am hugely excited about the possibilities his arrival now unlocks for our award-winning coverage.”
