The Full Ahead Podcast will expand its coverage of the maritime sector after securing sponsorship from ferry operator Stena Line for its second series.
The podcast was launched by former shipping chief executive Alistair Eagles and journalist and broadcaster Nigel Thompson to highlight the work of people across the maritime industry, both at sea and ashore.
The first series featured five episodes recorded at the Shipping Ferry Summit in Malmo, including interviews with chief executives from shipping companies across Europe.
Guests also included representatives from the British Ports Association, a marine lawyer and volunteers helping preserve one of the remaining steam powered tugs.
Alistair said: “When we began the podcast, we thought there was a real opportunity to highlight the work of people employed in this vital sector who are often overlooked.
“Little did we know that maritime matters would become daily news and we’ve been overwhelmed by the messages and comments from listeners from all over the world.”
The podcast has also focused on recruitment challenges facing the sector by exploring careers at sea and on land. Contributors have come from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.
Nigel said: “As well as amazing personal stories, innovation is taking place in all areas of the industry and we’ve been privileged to see it at first hand too.”
Recent episodes have examined developments including battery powered ships, the use of artificial intelligence to welcome passengers aboard vessels, and Stena Line’s Stena Connecta, which is fitted with two Norsepower Rotor Sails.
Shirley Oguz, PR & Communication Manager for UK & Ireland at Stena Line, said the company was pleased to support a podcast that provides stories and insight from across the maritime world.
The sponsorship will allow the production team to broaden its coverage and introduce video content alongside the audio series.
Alistair added: “The sponsorship means we can extend our range to cover even more stories and bring video into the mix too.”
The podcast is available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and YouTube.
