Tenderfoot TV and iHeartPodcasts launch dark comedy true crime series

Tenderfoot TV and iHeartPodcasts have unveiled a new six-part limited series, Wisecrack, a show that blends stand-up comedy with true crime storytelling.

The series opens with comedian Edd Hedges on stage, performing a set that quickly transforms into a chilling account of the deadliest night in his small English village.

On 22 July 2015, Hedges, who had grown up facing relentless bullying, returned home for a charity gig. What began as a celebration of his rising comedy career soon descended into horror, as a killer began claiming lives just hours after his performance, before turning up at Hedges’ door.

In Wisecrack, Hedges retells his story with humour and raw honesty, weaving self-deprecating jokes and childhood memories into an investigation that stretches from his hometown to the courtroom.

“If you want to hear about my father with eight fingers, how my mother became an accidental meth dealer, and uncover why my neighbour became a murderer, then Wisecrack is for you,” Hedges said.

The project is co-produced with Starwipe Productions and was first inspired at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where Emmy-nominated crime producer Jodi Tovay witnessed Hedges’ unusual set.

“The moment I heard his performance, it stopped me in my tracks,” said Tovay, who went on to host and produce the series. “My curiosity took over and I left vacation early, knowing that everyone needed to hear this immediately.”

Donald Albright, Co-founder and CEO of Tenderfoot TV, described the series as pushing the boundaries of the genre. “Comedy and crime are a proven recipe for success, but Wisecrack uses the art of stand-up comedy as a device to tell a narrative story, where every punchline hides something darker,” he said.

As the podcast unfolds, listeners are taken from the bright lights of the stage into the darker corners of a murder investigation.

The first episode of Wisecrack is available now, with new episodes released every Tuesday on iHeartRadio and all podcast platforms.
