A new podcast series investigates the scandal around Dr. Robert Hadden, an OB-GYN at Columbia University who abused his patients for more than 20 years.
Reported and hosted by award-winning health reporter Laura Beil, Exposed: Cover-Up at Columbia University shares the stories of numerous survivors and their decade-long battle to bring Hadden to justice and hold institutions accountable.
Dr. Robert Hadden was a trusted OB-GYN at Columbia University. Friendly, caring, unassuming… and behind the closed door of an exam room, one of the most prolific sexual predators in New York City.
During his 25-year career, he assaulted hundreds, perhaps thousands, of patients, under the guise of medical exams. Those who tried to warn Columbia were ignored or not believed.
When it appeared that no one — not Hadden, not Columbia — would be held to account, it was the survivors who undertook a decade-long fight for justice. In July, Hadden was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison.
Laura Beil said: “This series shows how elite medical institutions turn a blind eye to uphold their brand, not believing the patients they promised to protect.
I’m indebted to the survivors who spoke to me for this podcast, in the hopes of preventing something like this from happening again.
“Exposed: Cover-Up at Columbia University is based on an investigation that lasted more than 18 months, including interviews with sources who have never spoken publicly and documents revealed for the first time.”
