A new eight-part Audible Original podcast, The Second Victim: Daisy’s Story, follows the story of Daisy as she recounts life as a transracial adoptee.
In the podcast, Daisy is on a journey to try and get justice for a crime that shaped her existence. It begins in 1970’s rural England, where Daisy is growing up in her adopted family home. She is part of a white family, and the only black child in her community. Alienation and loss of identity overshadow her childhood.
After discovering she was conceived through the rape of her birth mother, Daisy is on a lifelong mission to find and prosecute her father. The Second Victim follows her journey as she fights injustice – not just for her mother, but for herself and other children born under the same circumstances.
This is a work in progress for Daisy and is a real time account of her piecing her story together, through the eyes and voices from people that know her.
During the production process for The Second Victim, Daisy’s campaign for children conceived in rape was successful in January 2023. The law is currently under consultation but is due to come into effect soon. This was a huge milestone for Daisy and the Centre for Women’s Justice who have been working with her.
The Second Victim is Audible’s first release as part of its multi-podcast deal with production studio, Raw. All episodes are available from Audible.
