Simple English News Daily reaches 10 million global downloads

Independent daily news podcast Simple English News Daily has reached 10 million downloads, according to its hosting platform Spreaker.

Known by its acronym SEND7, the show has also had its listening data viewable on open podcast analytics platform OP3 since November 2023.

SEND7 delivers a seven-minute update each weekday aimed at people learning English or using it as a second language. Each episode covers news from across all continents, with the team aiming to keep the tone neutral and the reporting unbiased.

The podcast was founded in April 2020 by Stephen Devincenzi, who continues to host most episodes. Juliet Martin and Niall Moore usually present one episode each per week, providing continuity and varied delivery for the international audience.

SEND7 has remained completely independent and has never taken external funding. It became profitable in mid-2022 through a mix of paid subscriptions and programmatic advertising, while pledging 10% of profits to effective altruism charities. The model has allowed the show to grow steadily while maintaining editorial independence.

Speaking about its appeal, founder and host Stephen Devincenzi has explained that the podcast’s focus on clarity and neutrality has been key to its growth, particularly among learners who need short-form, accessible updates that still cover the full spectrum of world news.

SEND7’s 10 million download milestone marks a significant moment for a show that was launched during the pandemic as a resource for English learners.

Episodes are available Monday to Friday on all major podcast platforms.
