Mawaan Rizwan talks eggs, ramen and wigs on Dish podcast

Actor and comedian Mawaan Rizwan is the latest guest on Dish from Waitrose, joining hosts Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett OBE to talk about food, family, and the chaos of his creative world.

The Juice creator and BAFTA winner opened up about his unusual food habits, confessing to snacking on boiled eggs in small rooms.

“Apparently it doesn’t make you popular in an edit suite when you pull out a boiled egg,” he joked. “But I come from a long lineage of boiled egg men.”

Mawaan revealed he is obsessed with ramen and admits he always asks for “wet food” when eating out.

“I like my food, like I like my baths. Wet and immersive,” he laughed, adding that he cannot stand small portions or cheese sauce, but swears by the combination of burrata melted into instant noodles.

He also talked about his family’s influence, sharing how his mother encouraged acting through community plays and now appears in his TV projects.

“Obviously you’re gonna be in it,” he told her, describing it as a natural progression. His father, however, was less enthusiastic, once leaving a show halfway through because he had “got the gist”.

On Juice, Mawaan described the years-long journey to get the series commissioned. “I was pitching it for ten years. Everyone said it was too weird. But actually, it’s just about a guy stumbling into love,” he explained. Winning a BAFTA hasn’t changed him much, but he admitted it’s a “nice flex on dates”.

From wigs that spin, to clown school in Paris where a professor banged a drum if students were “s***,” Mawaan’s colourful stories had Grimshaw and Hartnett laughing throughout.

Dish with Mawaan Rizwan is available now on all major podcast platforms.
