Goalhanger is launching The Rest Is Science this month with a video-first format that explores the forces and patterns shaping the world around us.
The series is hosted by Professor Hannah Fry and Michael Stevens, with new episodes arriving every Tuesday and Thursday as they dig into major ideas, overlooked details and surprising scientific questions.
Each Tuesday offers a deep dive into a single theme, while Thursday’s “Field Notes” episodes start with a curious object that opens up a wider story filled with unexpected science and compelling explanations.
Short clips appearing across Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts keep discussions alive between episodes, to engage both casual viewers and long-time science fans who want more to think about.
Hannah Fry said: “We wanted to make a show that takes familiar ideas and turns them inside out – breaking them down and looking so closely that they start to feel almost unrecognisable.
“Science is full of things we think we understand – time, randomness, beauty, evolution – until you actually start to question them. Then you realise how strange, fragile, and completely astonishing reality really is.”
Michael Stevens added: “With The Rest Is Science, we wanted to go beyond pop science and maths – to dig into the kinds of details that usually get skipped over.
“I’ve always been fascinated by that space between what we know and what we think we know. That’s where curiosity really lives, and that’s the space this show explores.”
Episode One looks at whether water is actually “wet,” how minerals influence its taste and why our supply of drinkable freshwater is so limited, before examining over-hydration and the cosmic origins of water.
Later episodes tackle randomness, scale and infinity, the evolution of modern humans, why people cry, off-grid innovation on a Scottish island, the navigation skills of moths and whether skyscrapers could one day be built from mushrooms.
Fry brings her expertise as a mathematician, broadcaster and Cambridge professor, alongside her experience on programmes including The Future with Hannah Fry, The Secret Genius of Modern Life and Curious Cases.
Stevens draws on his global Vsauce audience of more than twenty-four million YouTube subscribers, his live tours and his work designing science-focused toys and experiments for The Curiosity Box.
The series includes a launch partnership with Cancer Research UK, offering monthly insights and human stories about scientific progress, innovation and data-driven breakthroughs.
Michelle Mitchell from Cancer Research UK said science transforms lives when curiosity and collaboration meet, adding that the show brings research stories to life in an accessible and inspiring way.
Goalhanger says the new show builds on its roster of hits following its recent milestone of one billion lifetime streams and more than seventy million monthly full-episode downloads.
Co-founder Jack Davenport said The Rest Is Science reflects Goalhanger’s future direction with video-first storytelling, global talent and ambitious ideas designed to travel across platforms.
The Rest Is Science will be available on YouTube and all podcast platforms from 25 November.
