Global Academy student launches his first documentary podcast

Imad Daili is a Global Academy year 12 student who has produced his first documentary podcast titled The Revival of British Basketball.

The project showcases his passion for sound design, sports media and immersive storytelling while highlighting the momentum building around the sport in the UK.

Imad’s documentary examines the rise, fall and renewed surge of British basketball, focusing on the culture, the community and the fresh investment that continue to reconnect young people with the game.

He tells the story through the lens of the London Lions, having secured media accreditation to follow the club closely and observe its impact on a new generation of fans.

The production is entirely his own work. He researched the history of the sport, shaped a narrative that tracks its evolution, and created a script designed to guide listeners through the highs and lows of British basketball.

Imad also edited the full programme and crafted detailed sound design that brings the court, the crowds and the emotion of the game into the audience’s ears.

His aim was to build something that feels real and precise, and his attention to detail can be heard throughout the documentary.

Imad said the project reflects everything he enjoys most. He is passionate about sport, fascinated by the craft of audio and focused on creating work that feels vivid and emotional.

His background in sound design already includes freelance projects with Disruptive Talent Group, where he has created demos for Radio X, BBC Radio 1 and Absolute Radio. He also presents the breakfast show on Youths Choice Anthems, giving him on-air experience that complements his production skills.

He credits Global Academy with helping him reach this point. The school has given him access to industry-standard studios, training in radio and audio production, and opportunities to work on live shows.

It has also provided the space to develop advanced storytelling skills and the confidence to take on a documentary of this scale.

Imad says the support, guidance and industry exposure available at Global Academy made the project possible and encouraged him to push further than he thought he could.

The Revival of British Basketball shows what happens when young creators are trusted with ambitious ideas. For Imad, it marks a significant step in his development as a presenter, producer and sound designer, and offers a glimpse of how far he may go in the industry.

The Revival of British Basketball is available on Spotify.
