Carl Froch and Tony Bellew have shared very different predictions for a potential Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury showdown in the first episode of Fight Your Corner.
The new boxing podcast sees former world champions Froch and Bellew joined by content creator Charlie Parsons to discuss heavyweight boxing, including Joshua’s future, Fury’s form and the upcoming Daniel Dubois versus Fabio Wardley fight.
Froch said Fury would beat Joshua comfortably on points if the long discussed fight finally happens.
“I think it’s an easy pick,” Froch said. “I think Tyson Fury wins on points, quite comfortably.”
He added that both fighters are now past their peak and admitted he is less interested in the contest than he would have been years ago.
“They’ve both lost and there’s nothing at stake,” he said. “I still want to see it, yeah, but nowhere near as much.”
Bellew disagreed on the likely outcome, predicting the fight would end inside the distance rather than on the scorecards.
“The only thing I can fully really commit to is it ain’t going the distance,” Bellew said.
He also suggested Joshua remains the bigger commercial name in heavyweight boxing.
“AJ. Commercially, as a commodity, he’s still the biggest draw in heavyweight boxing. It’s not even close,” Bellew said.
The discussion also focused on Tyson Fury’s current level following his recent outing against Arslanbek Makhmudov.
Bellew questioned Fury’s technical ability despite praising his movement and hand speed, while Froch claimed Fury is operating at “70% of his best”.
The pair also debated who needs the fight more for their legacy, with both agreeing defeat would damage Fury more heavily than Joshua.
Attention turned to Daniel Dubois against Fabio Wardley, where the two former champions were split again.
Bellew backed Dubois if the fight goes beyond the opening rounds but warned Wardley’s unbeaten record makes him dangerous early on.
Froch called it “a fifty fifty fight” and predicted Wardley could stop Dubois in the later rounds after surviving the early pressure.
Fight Your Corner launched this week with the episode focusing heavily on the heavyweight division and the futures of boxing’s biggest names.
