Killer Story podcast examines cold case through years-long investigation

A new true crime podcast that follows a journalist’s prolonged effort to identify a murdered teenager and challenge decisions that left her case unresolved has been launched.

From Sony Music Entertainment, Killer Story centres on an unconventional investigation led by Australian tabloid journalist Lyndal Marks, whose personal pursuit of the truth becomes the backbone of the series, hosted by Steve Fishman.

The podcast explores the disappearance of 17-year-old Sabrina Kidd, whose case initially attracts little attention after she goes missing in the United States.

Her story gains momentum only when Marks receives a phone call that draws her into a complex investigation across years, continents and repeated legal obstacles.

At the heart of the series are two women who never met but whose lives become intertwined through the case.

One is chasing glamour and opportunity, the other carrying unresolved trauma from her own past. When a Jane Doe is later found in the Colorado River, authorities are unable to identify the victim until Marks intervenes and establishes that the body is Sabrina.

The series details how Sabrina had been living with a middle-aged man who claimed he could help her become a model, raising troubling questions that Marks continues to pursue despite resistance.

Her network’s legal team warns against naming a suspect without definitive proof, but Marks continues working independently, risking her career and personal safety to follow leads.

As the story unfolds, listeners hear first time conversations with law enforcement and people close to Sabrina, alongside Marks’ own reflections on how her background mirrors aspects of the teenager’s experience.

The investigation uncovers legal roadblocks and a group of characters whose intentions are often unclear, challenging assumptions about who can be trusted.

“Working on Killer Story has been one of the most compelling reporting experiences of my career,” said Steve Fishman. “Collaborating with Lyndal Marks was a joy; she’s intrepid, relentless and only she could have solved this case.”

All episodes are available to stream now on The Binge and across major podcast platforms.
