Podcast marks 100 years of Queen Elizabeth II and Sir David Attenborough

A new podcast mini-series examines the shared legacy of Queen Elizabeth II and Sir David Attenborough ahead of their centenary milestones.

DMG Media has released the first episode of a two-part series within its history podcast Queens, Kings and Dastardly Things, focusing on the lives of the late monarch and the broadcaster. The opening episode is available now, with the second due on 27 April.

Historians and presenters Kate Williams and Robert Hardman explore how both figures, born weeks apart in 1926, shaped modern Britain through decades of public service and cultural influence.

The series connects their experiences across major historical moments, including World War II, the rise of television, and changes in public life.

It highlights how both individuals adapted to a rapidly evolving media landscape. It looks at their roles during what is often described as the early years of British broadcasting, as well as their continued relevance into the present day.

Kate and Robert also examine the relationship between David Attenborough and the Royal Family, alongside their shared interest in the natural world.

The episode reflects on how both figures helped raise awareness of environmental issues and encouraged wider public engagement with conservation.

The series forms part of wider activity marking what would have been Queen Elizabeth II’s 100th birthday on 21 April and Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday on 8 May. It positions both figures as central to Britain’s national story across the past century.

Across the two episodes, listeners are taken through key moments in each life, drawing comparisons between their contributions to public service, broadcasting, and national identity. The podcast also looks ahead to commemorations planned for the Queen’s centenary.

Elizabeth II and David Attenborough Part 1 is available now on major podcast platforms.
