Spotify and Netflix strike Jay Shetty video podcast partnership

Jay Shetty’s podcast On Purpose will launch video episodes on both Spotify and Netflix from 13 July.

The deal means the podcast will expand into a visual format across both platforms, with Spotify also becoming the global sales representative for the show.

Spotify, Netflix and Jay Shetty announced the partnership today, describing it as a move to bring one of the world’s largest podcasts to wider audiences through video.

On Purpose features interviews with guests from entertainment, wellness and culture, with conversations focused on personal growth and wellbeing.

The new arrangement means viewers will be able to watch full video episodes through Netflix, while Spotify users can choose between audio and video within the same app.

Jay said: “This is a historic moment, not just for On Purpose but for podcasting itself. We’re entering a new era where interviews can impact culture as powerfully as movies, music, and television on the global stage.”

He added: “It is truly a dream come true to be partnering with Netflix & Spotify at the same time. I would never have believed when I started the podcast just 7 years ago this would happen.”

Roman Wasenmüller, Spotify’s Vice President and Global Head of Podcasts, said the partnership reflected Spotify’s continued focus on video podcasts and creator growth.

“Spotify is already where millions of fans come to listen to the show, and this next chapter builds on that momentum by giving audiences an even more immersive way to experience it,” he said.

Lauren Smith, Netflix Vice President of Content Licensing and Programming Strategy, said Jay Shetty had “an extraordinary ability to spark deep, meaningful connections that resonate with millions around the world”.

The partnership adds another major podcast title to Netflix’s growing factual and interview content offering, while continuing Spotify’s push into video podcast distribution and advertising sales.
