Outsiding, produced by Cold Glass Productions, brings listeners and viewers into the world of outdoor conversation, with every episode recorded entirely outside rather than in a studio.
Hosted by broadcaster and author Caitlin Moran alongside garden designer and television presenter Adam Frost, the show will reveal a different side of its celebrity guests by engaging them in relaxed discussions surrounded by nature.
The first episode features comedian and TV presenter Bob Mortimer, who shares personal stories about his childhood, his relationship with gardening, and memories of his father.
Bob reflects on the companionship a garden can offer as people age and how getting older has changed what brings him joy, from long walks and gardening to quiet moments in the countryside.
He says a garden becomes “a very good friend” because it offers something to care for and follow through the seasons, adding that receiving a photo of the first tomato from his wife felt like “a big day”.
He also recalls an outdoorsy childhood in the north, where football, open fields and helping his mum keep the garden tidy filled his days.
Bob admits he no longer worries about looking fashionable, preferring practical clothing, and says his ideal day now is a countryside walk followed by a visit to a pub.
He also speaks movingly about revisiting the fishing spot where one of his few memories of his late father was made, describing finally being able to stand in the same place and “say goodbye”.
Throughout the conversation, he balances his trademark humour with thoughtful reflections on ageing, family and finding happiness in life’s simpler pleasures.
Caitlin and Adam intend for the show to encourage listeners to appreciate the outdoors and find joy in simple experiences. Adam will also provide practical gardening advice during the series, aiming to make outdoor life more accessible for everyone.
Episodes will be released every Thursday from today, with the line-up of guests also including Adrian Lester, Alex James, Alexander Armstrong, Charlotte Church, Dawn O’Porter, Kerry Godliman, Mel Giedroyc and Mike D from the Beastie Boys.
The Outsiding franchise will extend beyond the podcast, with long-form episodes available on YouTube, short-form content on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, and a Substack newsletter offering additional video content, photos and articles for subscribers.
Caitlin describes her enthusiasm for the project: “Three years ago, I put a wish out into the universe: I wanted a Gardening Friend.
“None of my friends are into gardening, and I desperately wanted someone to nerd out with about soil, and who would really appreciate my dazzling ‘strike an epimedium’ joke.
“Imagine how thrilled I was when the universe ended up giving me GARDENING GOD ADAM FROST, and our own podcast – where we can nerd out together, with like-minded Outsiders, about buds, bugs, and being outside in the sun.”
Adam adds: “I can’t wait to spend time with Caitlin every week. My hope for this podcast is that it makes people smile – after that everything is a bonus. I’m really not sure where our conversations will go, which is why I’m looking forward to it – we might even learn something along the way!”
