The APAs return for 2026 with new categories

The APAs will introduce six new and updated categories, reflecting the evolving skills and roles within the UK podcast and audio sector.

This year’s changes include the addition of Executive Producer of the Year, International Breakthrough Award, Experimental Sound Design, and Best Use of Video, as well as the separation of Non-Fiction Audiobook and Ensemble Cast into standalone categories for the first time.

The APAs, organised by AudioUK, are now in their sixteenth year and continue to recognise excellence across podcasts, radio, audiobooks, sound design, production, and presenting.

The awards highlight the achievements of both on-mic and behind-the-scenes talent, with categories across comedy, factual, documentary, audio drama, arts and culture, music, entertainment, lifestyle, society, true crime, history, and more.

Chris Baughen, Chief Executive Officer of AudioUK, said the APAs have always stood out for their sense of community and for celebrating the people who bring audio projects to life.

Noting the return of Audible as headline sponsor, Chris added: “I’m also delighted to welcome back Audible as our headline partner and grateful to Amazon Music for continuing to support our Pay What You Can scheme, helping to ensure entries to the awards remain accessible.”

The Kids Content category will return, with judging carried out by children, the intended audience for the entries.

Most categories are open to both individual producers and teams, acknowledging the collaborative nature of many productions.

Entries open today, Wednesday 1 July at midday, with an early bird entry period running for 10 weeks until 30th August. The standard entry period will then continue until the final deadline of 16 September at 2pm. There will be no late extension to the entry deadline.

AudioUK will again offer the Pay What You Can scheme, supported by Amazon Music, to help those facing financial barriers to enter. To access the scheme, email [email protected].
