Sherlock & Co., the audio drama reimagining Sherlock Holmes and John Watson as modern-day podcasters, is now available on BBC Sounds.
The series, produced by Holy Smokes Audio in partnership with Goalhanger, has already surpassed 20 million lifetime streams and downloads since its launch in October 2023, and now attracts around 800,000 downloads each month.
Original episodes, first released in 2023, will be made available weekly, covering more than 40 standalone Holmes cases.
The show stars Paul Waggott as Dr John Watson, Harry Attwell as Sherlock Holmes, and Marta da Silva as Mariana “Mrs Hudson” Ametxazurra.
It is written by Joel Emery and directed by Adam Jarrell, both of whom have recently joined Goalhanger full-time as the company expands its scripted audio ambitions.
Sherlock & Co. draws inspiration from Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic stories, but brings Holmes and Watson into the present day.
In this version, Watson is a former British Army doctor who documents his investigations as a true-crime podcaster, working alongside Holmes.
The series has built a strong international following, with fan art, online communities and live events contributing to its dedicated listener base.
Later this year, Sherlock & Co. will stage its first two full live shows at the Southbank Centre, both of which have already sold out.
Industry recognition for the series includes winning the People’s Voice Webby Award for Scripted Fiction Podcast in 2025, an ARIA Award in 2024, and first place in the Pod Bible Listener Polls 2023 audio drama category.
It was also shortlisted for Best Fiction and Best New Podcast at the British Podcast Awards 2024.
Tony Pastor, Co-Founder at Goalhanger, said: “We’re thrilled that Sherlock & Co. will be available on BBC Sounds.
“Joel, Adam and the whole team have created something properly special – smart, funny, inventive and with a fanbase that would impress even Sherlock himself.
“It’s brilliant that the show will now reach new audiences, while future episodes will, of course, continue to be released as usual across all other podcast platforms.”
