US listeners drive surge in soccer podcasts on Spotify during World Cup

Soccer podcasts have seen a dramatic increase in listenership among US audiences since the start of the World Cup, with Spotify reporting a rise of more than 380%.

This surge has made the United States Spotify’s top global market for soccer podcast listening during the tournament period, surpassing all other countries.

All ten US cities that hosted tournament matches are now ranked within the top 29 cities nationally for soccer podcast consumption on Spotify. New York City holds the top spot, followed by Los Angeles in third place and Dallas in fifth.

The growth in soccer podcast listening is particularly notable among Gen Z listeners on the platform. Three out of the top five sports podcasts for this demographic are now soccer-related, indicating a shift in sports media preferences among younger audiences.

Spotify’s data highlights the increasing role of podcasts in shaping sports conversations, especially as younger listeners turn to audio content for their football coverage and discussion.

This trend suggests that soccer podcasts are becoming a central part of how US fans engage with the sport, both during major tournaments and in everyday listening habits.
