Apple Podcasts adds video playback and improved search tools

Apple has introduced new features and intelligence experiences across its services including podcasts.

Mac users will be able to watch video podcasts with multitasking support on Apple Podcasts from this fall.

The update to Apple Podcasts brings an enhanced experience on macOS, adding Picture in Picture so viewers can continue watching episodes while using other apps, alongside support for transcripts, timed links and chapters in a single interface designed to keep audio and video content together.

On Apple’s tvOS platform, the company has redesigned the Apple Podcasts experience to include video podcast playback, a new sidebar for navigation and improved display of show and episode artwork, in order to make browsing and viewing content on the TV screen more straightforward.

A new search within show feature will also be introduced across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Vision Pro and podcasts.apple.com, allowing users to search directly inside a show from the See All Episodes view to locate specific content more quickly.

These changes bring video podcast playback more deeply into Apple’s ecosystem, linking devices and platforms so users can move between screens while maintaining access to the same episode features and search tools.

The changes are also designed to improve discovery within individual shows, reducing the need to scroll through full episode lists when users are looking for specific discussions or topics within a series.
