BBC Sounds launches The Comedy Circuit brand-new stand-up feed

BBC Sounds has launched a brand-new comedy feed called The Comedy Circuit, celebrating the very best in stand-up from some of the UK’s top comedians.

The feed kicked off with Snappy, a four-part special from stand-up favourite Suzi Ruffell. New specials will be released each month, featuring comedy legends including Romesh Ranganathan, Jimmy Carr, and Sarah Millican.

The Comedy Circuit brings the buzz of live stand-up directly to BBC Sounds and is the platform’s first non-podcast acquisition and marks a major move into stand-up licensing.

Caroline McEvoy, Acquisitions Producer for BBC Sounds, said: “We are thrilled to bring our first non-podcast acquisition onto BBC Sounds, and particularly excited that this innovative feed will feature brilliant acts from across the UK, including some of the biggest names in comedy, as well as highlighting rising stars.”

Julia McKenzie, Commissioning Editor for Comedy & Entertainment at Radio 4, added: “BBC Sounds is the home of audio comedy and it’s exciting to see these acquisitions adding to the rich selection of our commissioned live stand-ups such as Randy Feltface, Aurie Styla and Laura Smyth, and the new mixed bill series Live From The UK hosted by Angela Barnes.”

The launch of The Comedy Circuit expands BBC Sounds’ growing comedy portfolio, which already includes Radio 4 favourites The Unbelievable Truth hosted by David Mitchell, Mark Steel’s In Town, Just A Minute with Sue Perkins, and One Person Found This Helpful with Frank Skinner.

New stand-up shows will continue to arrive each month, bringing the atmosphere of comedy clubs to audiences nationwide.
