Global has appointed Craig Hunter to oversee its podcast output and digital content growth through its newly formed Global Studios.
Craig will lead the company’s original podcast slate, which includes titles such as The News Agents, My Therapist Ghosted Me and the recently launched Formula One show Up To Speed.
He joins from STV Studios, where he spent seven years as Creative Director of factual. During that time, Craig expanded the label’s output across returning brands, factual entertainment and documentaries.
Before that, he worked at the BBC as Lead Commissioning Editor for natural history and specialist factual, commissioning programmes including Blue Planet Live and Inside the Factory.
At Global, Craig will take responsibility for both creative direction and commercial development in the UK and internationally.
He will also oversee partnerships with The Overlap and The Fellas Studios, both of which have been added to Global’s portfolio over the past year.
Craig will report to Group Chief Executive Simon Pitts and Chief Broadcast and Content Officer James Rea, while joining the company’s Executive Committee.
Simon Pitts said: “Craig is an outstanding creative leader and I’m delighted that he’s joining Global to lead the growth of Global Studios. I’ve seen firsthand how effectively Craig leads teams and develops new shows into successful, returning brands.”
Craig Hunter said he was proud of his time at STV Studios and felt it was the right moment for a new challenge. He added he was “thrilled to be joining Global Studios at such an exciting moment”.
James Rea said Craig brings experience in building programmes and teams, adding: “He has exactly the right energy we need to move it forward.”
