Global launches podcast about one of Britain’s most prolific fraudsters
A new true crime podcast about one of the most prolific fraudsters in British history is being launched by Global.
Hannah Maguire and Suruthi Bala, who are behind the hit podcast Redhanded will host the brand new six-part podcast series, Filthy Ritual.
The pair uncover and unpick a shocking and almost unbelievable story about a charming, enchanting and mysterious woman called Juliette D’Souza, who claimed she could perform miracles.
At the turn of the 21st century in Hampstead, one of London’s most wealthy and well-known suburbs, this woman caused havoc on a number of people’s lives.
Described by her neighbours as being like ‘a knife in a velvet glove’, D’Souza claimed to have a special connection to an ancient source of power and wisdom, deep in the Amazonian jungle. She made at least one million pounds, possibly much more, through extortion and manipulation, becoming one of the most prolific con women in British history.
Hannah and Suruthi speak to the reporters who travelled to Suriname to track her down, one of Britain’s leading shamans and the victims who came together in search of justice.
Speaking about the new series, Hannah Maguire and Suruthi Bala said: “This is our first ever limited series, and we couldn’t have stumbled upon a more fascinating case. Voodoo, shamanism, black magic, a tree of life in the Surinamese jungle – all being used in a series of cons in Hampstead, North London?! It’s as mind boggling as it is terrifying.”
Megan Wastell, Director of Podcasts and Strategy, Global Player says: “Filthy Ritual tells the jaw-dropping tale of one of the most prolific fraudsters in British history. With countless twists and turns guided by the brilliant storytelling of Hannah and Suruthi, Filthy Ritual is set to be the appointment to listen true crime podcast this spring.”
All episodes of Filthy Ritual will be available on Global Player from Wednesday 19 April and on all podcast platforms weekly.
