Goalhanger expands with new creator investment and partnership division

Goalhanger has launched a new division to invest in creator led media businesses across video, audio, live and social platforms.

The company says Goalhanger Ventures will support digital first brands with strong editorial identities and audience growth potential.

Its first projects include an equity investment in Invisible Media and a commercial partnership with cricket creators Backyard Cricket.

Invisible Media was founded by Charlie Tymon and produces video storytelling around economics, business, geopolitics and culture. Its platform The Invisible Hand focuses on explaining complex subjects in a visual and accessible way for younger audiences.

Charlie said younger viewers are already engaging “at scale with content about macroeconomics, business and geopolitics”, adding that the investment would help grow “a brilliantly aligned, YouTube first business with huge potential”.

Goalhanger is also working with Backyard Cricket, created by Yorkshire brothers James and Mark Wood. The pair began filming cricket videos in their garden during lockdown and have since built an international audience through comedy led sports content.

Under the agreement, Goalhanger will provide funding and strategic support across production, sponsorship, merchandise and longer form content development.

Navid Behroozi, Executive Producer at Backyard Cricket, said the aim was to turn the brand’s audience growth into “a more sustainable business around the content”.

James and Mark said the channel began with “playing in the garden, arguing over close calls and sending decisions upstairs for DRS”. They added that working with Goalhanger would help them continue expanding the brand.

The launch follows the introduction of Goalhanger’s Accelerator programme in January, which offers creators investment, training and mentorship designed to support long term media careers.

Jack Davenport, Co-Founder of Goalhanger added: “Goalhanger Ventures is about giving exceptional creator-led businesses the infrastructure to grow without losing what made them special in the first place.

“Invisible Media and Backyard Cricket are very different propositions, but they both have that rare combination of editorial clarity, audience trust and genuine momentum.

“Our role is to help them scale thoughtfully, commercially and creatively, while protecting the independence, personality and quality that their communities already respond to.”
