Golden Lobes awards celebrate comedy podcasting’s biggest hits

Crowley Time with me, Tom Crowley was named Funniest Podcast of the Year at the Golden Lobes awards in London last night.

The awards ceremony, hosted by Cheerful Earful at the Clapham Grand, recognised comedy podcasts across 17 categories including live shows, scripted comedy, artwork, social media and listener moments.

The Big Ears for Funniest Podcast of the Year, supported by Rusty Quill, went to Crowley Time with me, Tom Crowley, ahead of shortlisted shows including Birthday Girls House Party, Pappy’s Flatshare and The Romesh Ranganathan Show.

Wolf & Owl with Romesh Ranganathan and Tom Davis received the Lobes Legend Award, recognising its contribution to comedy podcasting over the past five years. The show also picked up the Earworm Award during the ceremony.

BudPod with Glenn Moore & Pierre Novellie won the Listener’s Lobe, the only category voted for entirely by listeners. The podcast also secured Best Tangent, making it one of the night’s multiple winners.

The Truth (In My Opinion) had two wins on the night. Katie Norris won Best Guest for her appearance on the podcast, while Becky Carewe Jeffries collected the Behind The Scenes Hero award.

Other winners included Button Boys for Best Artwork, This Paranormal Life for Best Social and Tonsil Hockey for Best New Show. Lateral with Tom Scott won Best Live Show, while Listen Through the Brown Window took Best Scripted Show.

Additional winners included Marcel Lucont’s Whine List for Best Listener Moment, Push The Roll with Ross Bryant for Best International Show and Week Minded with Stuart Laws & Daman Bamrah for Grower Not A Shower.

Giles Gear, organiser of the Golden Lobes and Cheerful Earful, said: “Another triumphant night for comedy podcasts of all shapes and sizes. The Golden Lobes has cemented itself as a staple in the podcasting calendar.”

He added: “We can’t wait to celebrate with some live shows when the festival kicks off this autumn.”
