Harry Potter audio editions reveal new voices for iconic roles

Pottermore Publishing and Audible have revealed further casting for Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions.

The announcement includes several well-known actors joining the project to bring some of the most beloved characters to life.

Mark Addy, best known for Game of Thrones, will voice Rubeus Hagrid, Daniel Mays from Rogue One and Line of Duty will play Dobby, Alex Hassell from The Boys and Rivals takes on the role of Lucius Malfoy, and Sara and Avni Deshmukh from Iconicakes will portray The Patil Twins.

These iconic roles were first teased during the Back to Hogwarts 2025 Showcase, which marks the yearly celebration on 1 September of Harry Potter’s return to Hogwarts.

Mark Addy said: “Hagrid has a special place in the hearts of Harry Potter fans worldwide, and it’s an honour to bring this cherished character’s lines to life in these imaginative audio productions from Pottermore and Audible.

“The humanity and warmth that Hagrid displays is integral to the stories, and listeners will be captivated by how this amazing sonic world captures his larger-than-life presence and emotional depth.”

This announcement follows the first wave of casting earlier this year, which included Hugh Laurie as Albus Dumbledore, Matthew Macfadyen as Lord Voldemort, Riz Ahmed as Professor Snape, Michelle Gomez as Professor McGonagall, and Cush Jumbo OBE as narrator.

Frankie Treadaway, Max Lester, and Arabella Stanton will play Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger in the first three audiobooks, with Jaxon Knopf, Rhys Mulligan and Nina Barker-Francis stepping into the trio’s roles from the fourth book onwards.

Additional casting news is expected this autumn as the production nears completion, with more than 2,000 recording hours already logged.

The audio editions aim to deliver immersive storytelling with Dolby Atmos sound design, original scoring, and real-world sound capture, creating an experience unlike previous Harry Potter recordings.

The release schedule begins with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone on 4 November 2025, followed by Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on 16 December 2025. The series continues monthly through to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which is scheduled for release on 12 May 2026.

All titles are now available to pre-order on Audible.
