Investigative journalist and author, John Sweeney was delighted but moved to tears as his podcast Hunting Ghislaine was named Best Podcast at the Global Awards today.
Now in its fourth year, The Global Awards brings together Global’s radio stations; Capital, Heart, Smooth, Classic FM, LBC, Radio X, Capital XTRA and Gold, to honour the biggest stars of music, news and entertainment. With the awards ceremony unable to take place this year, Global today revealed the 2021 winners on air, online and on Global Player to fans.
The podcast was launched last year and tells the story of Ghislaine Maxwell, the daughter of disgraced billionaire media tycoon Robert Maxwell and former partner of notorious convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
The six-episode series begins with a look at how badly Ghislaine was treated her media tycoon father Robert Maxwell, a bully, a crook and a thief.
It reflects on her black book of high society contacts, including Bill Clinton, Donald Trump and Prince Andrew, all the while noting the cult-like nature of Epstein and Ghislaine’s world.
On receiving the award, John Sweeney said: “Forgive me I’m feeling very emotional, very teary right now. Look at this! This beautiful object – so artistic – ‘The Global Award 2021 for Best Podcast for Hunting Ghislaine’. I do feel emotional, this award means a lot, thank you very much and keep on listening.”
