On this week’s episode of the CASTaway podcast, Laura Whitmore is joined by singer-songwriter, podcast royalty, co-host of the Table Manners podcast – Jessie Ware.
Each week Laura interviews a celebrity guest about the shows they’re listening to, in a bid to uncover the best podcasts.
In the latest episode, which is launched tomorrow (29 October), the pair discuss what inspired Jessie to start her podcast three years ago and how it led to live tours and a cookbook.
“The podcast began as an escape from doing just music. I was feeling frustrated with feeling that I was confined to music,” she says, adding, “I’m aware that I’m very lucky that I get to do music as a job – it’s a magical job, which doesn’t feel like a job most of the time, but then it also feels like the most kind of painful emotional thing in the world as well. The podcast was a chance to explore a different avenue and to talk to other people about their stories. I’m so bored of talking about myself!”
The duo also talk about how they both first got into podcasts while running, Jessie says: “I think Dolly Parton’s America is just fantastic, it’s a podcast I would listen to when I was running, and I really believe she got me to that 5k mark! I find music so much more distracting when you’re running – I much prefer listening to a podcast to get me through.”
Other shows that get mentioned in the episode include The Guilty Feminist, Scroobius Pip and Human by Jess Mills as they’re all about inspiring, sharing meaningful conversations and creating a sense of community – which after all, is why people love podcasts!
Castaway is available on all major podcast platforms, including iTunes and Spotify.
