Mark Asquith named third Heroes of Indie Podcasting inductee

Mark Asquith has been named the third and final inductee into Mercury Podcasts’ inaugural Heroes of Indie Podcasting Hall of Fame.

The CEO of Rebel Base Media and co-creator of Captivate.fm was surprised with the award at Global’s headquarters in London, where Mercury Podcasts founder Liam Heffernan presented the honour in front of colleagues and industry peers.

The annual initiative was created to recognise people whose work has helped shape and strengthen the independent podcasting sector.

Mark joins fellow inaugural inductees Arielle Nissenblatt, founder of EarBuds Podcast Collective, and Emma Turner, co-founder of the Independent Podcast Awards.

Mercury said the award recognises Mark’s contribution to independent podcasting through the development of podcast technology, platforms and communities that support creators.

He has spent more than a decade building tools and services designed to help podcasters grow and monetise their work.

Today, Captivate.fm sits at the centre of Rebel Base Media, the podcast technology company Mark leads as chief executive. The platform is used by independent podcasters around the world and focuses on podcast growth and development.

Accepting the award, Mark said: “This is incredible, genuinely, thank you. When Liam said this was an award for the mantle, I thought, this is going straight to the office, because that’s exactly where it belongs.

“I’m honoured, and yes, this means everything — but I’m accepting it on behalf of everyone behind the scenes at Captivate and for every person who helped us get here.”

Liam said: “When we launched the Heroes of Indie Podcasting, we said the third inductee was a certified legend and Mark Asquith is exactly that.

“He has spent years building the infrastructure that independent podcasters rely on every day, and doing it in a way that consistently puts creators first.”

The announcement completes the first year of the Heroes of Indie Podcasting Hall of Fame, with Mercury confirming that new inductees will be recognised annually. The initiative was launched earlier this year as part of Mercury
