New in-flight music show Taking Off…with Jamie Cullum launches

Award-winning broadcaster and musician Jamie Cullum is to host a new in-flight music show.

Launching in June, Taking Off…with Jamie Cullum is produced by Essex-based Folded Wing, who have been making Jamie’s BBC Radio 2 show since it began in 2010. The quarterly, hour-long in-flight show will celebrate fresh jazz and jazz-leaning emerging artists.

The will be available on six airlines, including British Airways, Aer Lingus, Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian and Qatar Airways. It’s being made in collaboration with leading global media and entertainment agency Spafax.

Platinum-selling recording artist Jamie will be selecting the best emerging music with influences from around the globe whilst focusing on independent labels.

Episode 1 includes Londoners Ezra Collective, Dublin’s Moondiver, US-born Indian-raised and UK-based percussionist Sarathy Korwar and Latin-influenced alt-soul from Portuguese singer and songwriter Raquel Martins.

“The show is an absolute reflection of what Folded Wing stands for,” says CEO and founder Karen P. “It’s a platform for new music and new artists, showcasing them to the world. It’s great to be bringing Jamie’s amazing broadcasting and selection to a whole new audience.”

Philippa Starns, Audio Manager UK at Spafax added: “Jamie Cullum is a trailblazer for discovering global jazz-inspired music and we are excited, proud and delighted that he is joining our roster of audio in-flight entertainment presenters.

“His warm, friendly, cheerful presentation style is pleasant and welcoming, and his passion, knowledge and genuine love of all things jazz is inspiring.

“We’re thrilled that international passengers flying all over the world will now have the chance to either discover him, or welcome his voice like an old friend, onboard their flights.”
