Sculptor, visual artist and TV presenter Sadie Clayton is launching a podcast limited series, Black People Can’t…
Together with leading names and industry figures, the podcast is the start of Sadie’s journey to explore day-to-day issues that go unnoticed but impact people of colour.
The first in the series, Black People Can’t Swim, was born from the desire to educate about the social constraints experienced by people of colour in the sport and empower them to get involved.
With 95% of adults of colour and over 80% of children in Britain not being able to swim it is a huge area for change and is not limited to the UK. Sadie and her guests break down myths and give listeners inspiration to take on the challenge.
Guests lined up include the Bafta award winning costume designer PC Williams, Alice Dearing one of the first black female swimmers to compete in the Olympics representing GB, Victor Okunowo a semi-finalist on Masterchef the Professionals and Nathaniel Cole the co-founder of Swim Dem Crew.
Each episode explores the guest’s swim journey, touches on cultural and historical black swimming contexts, dissects social constraints within the black community and unpacks the myth that Black People Can’t Swim.
New episodes of Black People Can’t Swim are released each Wednesday from 17 May on Spotfify, Apple and all streaming platforms.
