New podcast offers guide for puppy buyers and owners

A new podcast from the Dog Breeding Reform Group focuses on helping people make informed decisions about dog health, welfare and responsible breeding.

Hosted by DBRG member Ben Simpson-Vernon, known online as Ben the Vet, The Dog’s Voice Podcast will explore issues affecting puppy welfare through conversations intended to make complex topics easier to understand.

The serieswill address concerns that many people unknowingly support poor breeding practices when buying a puppy.

Episodes will focus on helping listeners understand the choices available to them and the potential impact those decisions can have on a dog’s lifelong health and wellbeing.

Topics covered in the series include how to identify a responsible breeder, the role of social media in puppy purchasing, hereditary health testing, genetic diversity, crossbreeding and other factors that can influence canine welfare.

Ben Simpson-Vernon said: “When I heard about early plans for the Dog’s Voice podcast, I was super keen to be involved because I could see so much potential for it to have a positive impact on dog welfare.”

He added that while owners want the best for their dogs, a lack of research at the start of a dog’s life can contribute to emotional and physical health problems.

He described the podcast as both a celebration of dogs and a resource for future owners seeking healthy canine companions.

The series will also feature contributions from a range of people connected to dog breeding and welfare, including dog owners, breeders, researchers, vets and organisations such as the RSPCA.

According to the charity, the overall aim is to improve welfare outcomes for dogs across the UK by giving owners access to clear and reliable information.

The Dog’s Voice Podcast will be available fortnightly from 26 June across major podcast platforms.
