Patreon opens discovery tools to boost podcast growth

Podcasters on Patreon can now reach new paying listeners without relying on external social platforms.

The membership platform has expanded its internal discovery tools to most of its 300,000 creators and nearly 80 million users, aiming to strengthen how podcast audiences are built and retained directly within its ecosystem.

The update introduces several new features designed to help shows connect with listeners already interested in supporting creators.

These include a short form posting tool called Quips, a redesigned Home feed, and collaboration posts that allow creators to publish content together and reach shared audiences.

For podcast producers, the changes signal a shift away from dependence on platforms such as TikTok or Instagram for visibility. Instead, discovery is now driven by user engagement, shared interests, and existing fan relationships inside Patreon, where audiences are more likely to convert into paying members.

There are already 47,000 podcasters using Patreon, collectively earning more than $629 million last year, a rise of 33% year on year. The company says its network is now delivering over one million new memberships to creators each month, with free memberships nearly doubling over the same period.

The redesigned Home feed will prioritise content from creators a user already supports, including podcasts, while also recommending new creators based on behaviour and shared interests.

A separate memberships only feed allows users to focus exclusively on content from creators they follow.

Collaboration posts are also expected to play a role in podcast growth, with Patreon reporting that engagement is more than five times higher when creators interact through shared content or community activity.

In a statement, Patreon said the changes are intended to prioritise “long term relationships over mindless attention” and to support creators in growing sustainable businesses without relying on advertising driven platforms.

The company added that it will continue refining its recommendation systems, with future updates allowing users to select interests and explore topic-based communities more easily.
