The second series of Matt and Roxy’s Celebrity Side Hustles from former Emmerdale actors Roxy Shahidi and Matthew Wolfenden has launched.
Following Roxy’s exit from Emmerdale last month, she and close friend Matthew, who has had roles on TV in The Good Ship Murder, and on stage in Elf the Musical since he left the soap, have been working to create the podcast.
Episodes uncover the incredible, surprising, and inspiring inner passions or ‘side hustles’ of TV stars. Those lined-up for this series include Adam and Katy Rickitt, Lisa Riley, Ross Adams, Amy Walsh and Toby Alexander-Smith, Sian Reese-Williams, Laura Norton and Mark Jordan.
Roxy and Matthew use their own insight into the TV world to go behind the scenes. They chat to their guests about everything, from how they got to where they are now, life off-screen and their celebrity side hustles.
Roxy Shahidi and Matthew Wolfenden say: “We absolutely love making Matt and Roxy’s Celebrity Side Hustles; it came about when we were chatting one day, and we realised how many people we know in the entertainment industry that are doing exciting, unusual or important side hustles that people have no idea about.
“Working in TV, you often have time on your hands whilst you’re waiting to go on set, or start a new role, plus acting is an ever-evolving career, so it’s always good to have a backup plan.
“Actors are creative with all sorts of unexpected passions; in this series we shine a light on celebrity side hustles from pottery, to teaching, to owning a bar and supporting charities.
“We take our audience behind the scenes with us and have such a laugh while we’re doing it. We can’t wait for you to see what we have in store.”
In the first of the six-episode series, Adam Rickitt, and his wife Katy Rickitt are guests.
Adam tells Matt and Roxy all about his sudden gear change from a rugby-playing private school boy to 90s soap star-turned pop heartthrob and the lifestyle that came with it, as well as his reluctant but highly successful dip into theatre.
Katy shares her journey into the world of news broadcasting and how a case of newsroom short staffing led to her chance meeting with Adam and their subsequent romance.
Adam and Katy’s celebrity side hustle is that they are also owners of Knutsford-based Dexter and Jones; a bar / shop and online distributor of craft beer and artisan spirits.
Adam and Katy Rickitt said: “Dexter & Jones is basically our baby. We found out we can’t have children which we’re actually really cool with.
“The only thing we thought we were lacking was something to do, and build, together. We moved to Knutsford and Dexter & Jones had been set up by two other couples, and we were one of the first customers through the door; when we first walked in, we knew it was going to be a part of us.
“We had a great time speaking to Roxy and Matthew on Celebrity Side Hustles; our business started as a side hustle and has pretty much become our lives! So it was wonderful to speak to someone about the love we have for it and working together.”
The first weekly episode of season two is released today, 30 April on Spotify, Apple, Amazon Music and YouTube.
