Spotify adds podcasts to Prompted Playlist for personalised discovery

Spotify is adding podcasts to its Prompted Playlist feature, expanding how listeners discover shows through personalised recommendations.

The tool, which launched earlier this year in beta, now allows users to generate podcast playlists based on listening habits, trends and real time signals within the platform.

The update is rolling out in English to Premium users across the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Sweden. It enables listeners to create playlists focused on specific topics, moods or interests, combining both music and spoken word content in one place.

Lizzy Hale, Global Head of Podcast Editorial at Spotify, said: “Podcast fans are always looking for their next great listen.

“Prompted Playlist makes discovery feel effortless and personal. For creators, it unlocks powerful new opportunities for discovery, bringing both back catalogue and new episodes to audiences who are actively signalling what they want to hear.”

Users can edit prompts at any time and choose whether playlists update daily or weekly. Each episode or chapter included comes with a short explanation outlining why it has been recommended, offering more transparency around the selection process.

Spotify says more than 34 million podcasts are discovered for the first time every week on the platform. The addition of podcasts to Prompted Playlist is intended to build on that behaviour, helping users find relevant content more easily while increasing visibility for creators.

Listeners can access the feature via the Home screen, where curated prompts are suggested, or by selecting the Create option and choosing Prompted Playlist. Suggested prompts include topics such as science and innovation, entertainment news and true crime.

Spotify says the feature remains in beta, with usage limits currently in place and subject to change as it gathers feedback.
